Violin/Viola Masterclass with Ms. Arvilla Rovit

Students from traditional or suzuki violin or viola studios are welcome to attend. All ages and levels are invited.

There will be 2-4 students grouped per hour, spending on the level of the piece performed. Each student will get a turn during the hour to perform their piece and receive one-on-one instruction. The other students in the hour will be learning from observing the students performing. We ask that you stay for at least your hour block. You are also welcome to stay and observe other hour blocks. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your class to quietly unpack and get ready to start on time.

If you would like an accompanist, you will need to provide your own.

Arvilla Rovit has Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where she received a Special Achievement Award upon graduating. Ms. Rovit received her Suzuki Violin Teacher Training at School for Strings and took all of her Suzuki Viola Teacher Training courses with Bill Preucil, Sr. and Betsy Stuen-Walker. She has maintained a private studio of violin and viola student since 1999. Arvilla has been Assistant Principal violist of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Principal violist of the Mississsippi Symphony as well as violist of the Mississippi String Quartet.

Price: Suzuki book 1-3 equivalent: $20 (4 students per hour), Suzuki book 4-8 equivalent: $25 (3 students per hour) Suzuki Book 9 and above $35 (2 students per hour)

High School Vocal Competition

Memorization is required.

Entrants who win commit themselves to perform in the winners recital Saturday, May 8 at 2pm. This winners recital will be taped for airing on WCNY-FM in September.

This presentation will be a lecture/discussion/listening session on some of the greatest pianists of the last century and a half as they are represented on vintage recordings. We can all learn a great deal about our pianistic and musical heritage through these glimpses into history. The changes in interpretive approach have changed dramatically in the past century, and listening to some classic examples should be thought-provoking and interesting. And, hearing some of the greatest piano playing ever committed to disc is always an enriching experience. ~ Patricia DeAngelis, chair
